Rae Duncan Interior Design’s Rowhouse Deck project was a garage addition and roof deck. The exterior space was very limited. We had to be very clever about the design to make it functional. We used contemporary tiles and furniture to match the interior renovation we were completing indoors. Custom planters, flower boxes, and a green roof were utilized to provide the natural elements the client desired. We made the space private from overlooking apartments with the use of a perforated wood screen. The built-in kitchen was small but contained both a gas grill and a beverage refrigerator. We used a custom cantilevered umbrella to provide shade over the entire deck. The success of this project was to meet the client’s wishes in such a small space. We used sconces to illuminate the space at night.
